Club Championship
The Club Championship was created with the aim of having a championship that is inclusive to all club members giving every runner an opportunity to win.  The Championship consists of 2 parts; points for results in Championship races vs other club members and points for obtaining personal bests in a variety of races and distances.  The points you gain over the year in these 2 areas are totalled and put into our Championship table.  Below you will find how to gain points in more detail.

(No Championship in 2020 & 2021 due to COVID restrictions)
Club Championship History
The men's club championship competition is named in memory of our late secretary Alan Greensmith; the runner with the most points at the end of the year receiving the Alan Greensmith Trophy.
The ladies’ championship has been renamed in memory of Maria Micklethwaite, 2010 winner and runner-up in 2011, who was tragically killed while out cycling in January 2012.

Points for racing
There are many championship races each year comprising of a variety of running disciplines such as road races, fell races and trail races.  Runners will be awarded points depending on their relative position compared with other Kingstone Runners; 25 for the 1st Kingstone Runner, 24 for 2nd, 23 for 3rd etc.  Part of each runner’s total is made up of their best 10 results vs other Kingstone runners out of all of the championship races.  A list of championship races can be found on the Calendar page.  Note that Chip Times are used for Championship purposes where they are available, otherwise Gun Times are used.

Personal Bests (PBs)
Points towards the championship can also be earned by achieving personal bests in a variety of races and across a range of distances.  At Kingstone we feel that runners should be rewarded for improving and that achieving a personal best can often feel more of a success than what position you finish in a race.  You will obtain 15 points per PB as set out in the rules below.

Set distance PB points
Personal best points are awarded for running a new fastest time in the following distances; 5km, 5 Miles, 10km, 10 Miles, Half Marathon, 20 Miles, Marathon.
Note that PB times are kept on a ‘2 years previous’ rolling cycle to ensure that PBs should always be within reach.  However, due to COVID, PB’s will only apply from 1st January 2022.

Race specific PB points
You can also gain personal best points by completing the same Championship race in subsequent years and posting a new fastest time as not all races are set distances such as fell and trail races.  For example, if you did the Kimmy Kanter in 2022 in 38m 29s and then did the same race in 2023 finishing in 37m 56s you would qualify for PB points for that race.  There are also several local race series including the Trunce, the Silkstone Shuffle, the Higham Hurtle, Spencer’s Dash and Barnsley parkrun.  You can gain PB points at these races in the same manner as long as you beat your previous best time from the preceding 2 years.
Barnsley parkrun – you can gain PB points once per year for a PB at Barnsley parkrun.

Please note that it is up to you to provide evidence of these PBs to our club secretary preferably with links to both sets of results.

Race series points relative to other members
Points will also be awarded at the end of the championship for a runner's best time relative to other Kingstone Runners in a variety of race series.  These races are; Trunce, Higham Hurtle, Silkstone Shuffle, Spencer’s Dash, Barnsley parkrun, any ratified marathon.

“What if I don’t have any PBs?”
At Kingstone we welcome all runners including those just starting on their running or racing journey.  If you haven’t set a previous best time in the preceding 2 years then you will need to set a best time in each distance or race before gaining PB points.  For example, if you did your first 10km race in February and then did another 10km race in June finishing quicker you would be able to claim PB points for the second race.
