The club was established by a handful of friends in 1996 as One-2-One Running Club based at the former One-2-One Gym in Summer Lane, Barnsley and became affiliated to the North of England Athletics Association (NoEAA) in January 1997.

The club moved to the LivingWell Health Club at Dodworth in January 2006 and changed its name to LivingWell Barnsley Running Club.  Membership increased as Health Club members started to join us for runs.  LivingWell then became Bannatynes.

In October 2007 we moved to Kingstone Sports Centre on Broadway in Barnsley and the club name changed again, to Kingstone Runners.  The club logo is based on the lights of the Sports Centre (now demolished) as viewed from Broadway.

After a brief spell at Horizon Community College when Kingstone School closed, we move to Honeywell Sports Centre in December 2012.

From 10th August 2020, following the easing of coronavirus lockdown restrictions, our new permanent home is Higham Cricket Club.

Membership has grown in recent years to around 150, (in 2020,) but Kingstone Runners still remains a friendly club providing support and encouragement to members.
